Toni Benton
Family Practice
Dr. Benton has an extensive interest and background
in treating children and adults with special health care needs and
developmental disabilities. She has been active in the field od
developmental disabilities for the past 25 years. Dr. Benton graduated
from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BS in Special Education
and spent several years as an Early Intervention Program Coordinator;
she also taught in a variety of special education settings prior
to entering medical school. She graduated from the University of
Texas Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in San Antonio Texas,
and completed her internship and residency at the University of
New Mexico Health Science Center. She is Board Certified in Family
Practice. She also has particular interests in geriatrics and women’s
health.
She currently serves as Regional Medical Consultant
for the Continuum of Care Project at the University of New Mexico.
In this capacity, she provides clinical services to the Adult Special
Needs Clinic, the SAFE feeding clinic, the Adult Cerebral Palsy
Clinic, the Adult Autism Diagnostic Clinic and the Belen Special
Needs Outreach Clinic. She serves on the HDR Committee, DD and Aging
Task Force, and the Families as Faculty Steering Committee. She
is the Primary Investigator for “UNM School of Medicine –
Families as Faculty Project: A Program Evaluation
