Personal Profile

I began working with people with developmental disabilities in high school through a therapeutic riding program and the Special Olympics. I enjoyed talking with them and helping them. Through medical school, I became interested in neurology, and specifically the treatment of epilepsy. As I began to work with people with developmental disabilities, I became concerned about the attitudes of some physicians in the community, and the lack of quality care for them. When offered the opportunity to join the Continuum of Care, I was more than willing to do so. The Continuum of Care shares my concerns, and is supportive of trying to help people with developmental disabilities become as independent as possible. We are concerned about the quality of care people receive. I believe we have been able to make a difference in the lives of people in New Mexico, and in the attitudes of some physicians caring for people with disabilities.

I have had the pleasure of working with individuals with developmental disabilities for the past eleven years. I have been mostly involved in the treatment of epilepsy, and headaches. I am the Director of the Ketogenic Diet Program. I received my MD degree from the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in 1989, and completed residency training in neurology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. I am a board certified General Neurologist.
